Vitex: Drought Resistant and Easy to Grow

Vitex angus castus, also called Chaste Tree is in bloom right now. The Vitex has 10 inch long blue flower stalks that start to bloom in May and will continue into Fall. Bees and butterflies are attracted to its blooms seeking nectar.  Vitex is an easy tree to grow, does not require much attention and can tolerate our hot summers. Vitex is native to the Mediterranean area and is used in herb spice mixtures. In our southern regions it is evergreen, but in our area it is deciduous. It reaches a height of 15 to 20 feet in our area and grows in a multi stem form. The Chaste Tree/Vitex will be a great tree for our bees and our landscapes.
